Josh Sims was an Alpena native and graduate of the class of 1999. He had a love for golf and a passion for people and music. As a talented musician, he played many instruments into adulthood and enjoyed concerts and music festivals. He is remembered by many for his quick wit, humor, contagious laugh, loyalty, and friendship. It only makes sense that the best way to honor Josh is by supporting musical arts and giving back to others. By combining his passions, family and friends are fundraising to create a scholarship that will be a lasting vigil to his name and financial aid to local graduates from many years to come.

Proceeds exceeding the needed amount for the scholarship will be donated to suicide prevention and awareness.

“Josh is one of those individuals that once you meet, you never forget. He was one of the most dedicated students that I ever had during my career as a music educator. His talent was endless and he loved to play percussion. Josh was loved by his classmates and always came to class prepared. When he walked into a room, you could feel his enthusiasm and energy. Though I lost being in touch with him for many years, we did connect a few times on the Fourth of July at the parade in Alpena. He still had that amazing charm and smile. He was certainly one of the best human beings that I have ever known.” -Raymond Reynolds, retired music teacher at Alpena Public Schools
